Every year at CHS, we adopt out and save over 600+ lives. The care and time necessary to love those animals and provide a safe harbor for them is numerous. That’s where our wonderful volunteers create their biggest impact.

YOU have the ability to enrich lives, socialize animals who have never had a safe home, give love to both dogs and cats, and help find them a forever home.

How it works

  • Attend orientation

    Orientation is required before you start volunteering. You may also be required to attend additional training. Sign up here

  • Plan your visit

    Once accepted into the volunteer program, you can sign up online for specific shifts here at CHS. Sign up here.

  • Pick a way to help

    Choose from the following: Dog walking, Dog or Cat enrichment, Cleaning, Events, Thrift Store, Donor Dog Routes, and Fostering.

  • Group volunteering

    If you’re a business or school we have special volunteer programs for your group! Learn more about group volunteering here.

  • Community service

    Whether to fulfill requirements for school or required by law, we have volunteer opportunities that fit! Learn more here.

  • Fostering

    Fostering is a special form of volunteering and giving back to the shelter. Think you’d be interested? Learn more here.

Important info

  1. You must be 13 years old to volunteer. If you are younger than 18, you must have a parent or guardian with you at all times. Parents or guardians must attend the orientation alongside their child. 

  2. You must be willing to help clean the shelter for a minimum of 2 shifts before signing up for other activities.

  3. You must be willing to take direction from all staff members, and work independently. You must follow all safety rules and regulations.

  4. Treat all animals with the utmost kindness and compassion.
